What Do We Do?
Each year, OKCTE hosts a fall conference, inviting educators, preservice teachers, and students from across the state to share new ideas and approaches to English Language Arts pedagogy. We celebrate the winners of the Geraldine Burns Award for Excellence in English Education and the Young Writers Contest every spring at our awards ceremony
. Our official publication the Oklahoma English Journal features peer-reviewed articles and book reviews, while also providing a platform for local student affiliates and K-12 classroom teachers to share their concerns and celebrate their achievements.

What Are the Benefits of Being a Member of OKCTE?
OKCTE is an inclusive community that provides its members with opportunities to share their experiences and learn best practices from English Language Arts educators. At our annual fall conference and our monthly virtual workshops, Oklahoma ELA teachers and university professors discuss the latest research and trends in English Language Arts, offer examples of what works in the classroom and what doesn't, and share ways to engage with students. By providing members with many different ways to present their research and best practices to a larger ELA community, we strive to highlight the value of English Language Arts and promote it as a discipline.

What Are We About?
The Oklahoma Council of Teachers of English seeks to support and improve the teaching of all aspects of English Language Arts, including reading, writing, creative and critical thinking, listening, and speaking. We are committed to addressing current issues in literacy and language arts, as well as those concerned with instructional praxis and educational policies. OKCTE celebrates and highlights research in the liberal arts and humanities fields, and we strive to empower ELA and humanities teachers by providing quality professional development opportunities.
